SOMETHING NEW COOKING IN SAVANNAH

Several ladies from the New York City area were giggling as spatulas churned and knives sliced their way into a culinary creation under the smiling eyes of Chef Darin Sehnert. Everyone involved seemed to be having a fantastic time, and the fragrance coming from the cooking surface was mouthwatering!

A unique idea has come to a boil within the walls of The Mansion on Forsyth Park, which is the finest lodging available in Savannah’s Historic District. This Kessler Collection Luxury destination could be Savannah’s most eclectic hotel. The property is tastefully decorated with Brazilian mahogany, Italian onyx marble, and over 400 pieces of original artwork enrich the opulent interior and dramatic design.

This new luxury hotel incorporates the exterior architecture and design of an original 18,000 square foot Victorian Georgian Mansion overlooking what locals know as “The Big Park.” It is home to the 700 Drayton Restaurant, Casimir’s cocktail lounge, Carriage Wine Cellar, and  the fun and unique 700 Kitchen Cooking School.

The 700 Kitchen Cooking School is a state-of-the art culinary facility dedicated to bringing entertaining and engaging cooking programs to both individuals and groups. It is a rare opportunity for participants to be engaged in cooking education and amusement, and Chef Darin Sehnert, Culinary Director of 700 Kitchen, offers a unique variety of classes that are extremely fun for both novice and experienced alike. Classes are offered throughout the week and topics change throughout the year. Most classes are 2 to 3 hours in length and reservations are required. All classes feature hands-on participation and, like me, of course, you’ll enjoy sampling the fruits of your labors at the end of the experience!

Visitors to the 700 Kitchen School learn to cook flavorful ethnic and regional cuisines, and leave with a new outlook on how to entertain family and friends. From daily interactive, hands-on culinary programs for individuals to unique culinary dinners for small groups, 700 Kitchen Cooking School reveals new tastes, flavors, and techniques for everyone regardless of experience.

One of the most popular aspects of the cooking school is the “Team Culinary Challenge.” This event is ideal for groups and organizations looking for team bonding or building experiences that hone cooking skills and challenge the group to perform as a team under special circumstances.  The competition is modeled after the challenge that many chefs around the world face in order to prove and refine their talents. Teams work under deadline pressures to create a mouth-watering masterpiece using a variety of raw resources.

Despite all the excitement of the moment, Chef Sehnert will always maintain a light-hearted atmosphere, and all of the delightful creations can be consumed as a reward at the end of the competition. Every participant leaves with fond memories that most certainly will be relived each time they don their souvenir, logo apron!
